Yamato 7" Damascus Steel Nakiri Knife 菜切り包丁
Shimeru presents the Yamato 大和川 Damascus Steel Knife Set, a collection that embodies the pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship and precision. Hand-forged by a Master Blacksmith, this set combines 67 layers of finely crafted Damascus steel with luxurious sandalwood handles, offering a premium feel and unrivaled functionality in your kitchen.
Exquisite Craftsmanship: Each knife begins its journey under the strike of a belt hammer, followed by an engineering hammer used on an anvil to straighten and realign the blade, ensuring a flawless structure free from imperfections. This meticulous process culminates in a final quenching, resulting in an extraordinary hardness of 62:64 HRC. The blades are crafted to deliver the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel, with ultra-thin, light constructions that slice effortlessly while being easy to re-sharpen.
Luxurious and Functional Handles: The handles are skillfully crafted from sandalwood, known for its beauty and durability. This material not only complements the intricate Damascus steel patterns but also ensures a comfortable grip, promising finesse and control in every cut.
Complete Culinary Collection: The Yamato Knife Set offers a comprehensive range of tools to meet all your culinary needs.
Care and Maintenance: Crafted from traditional carbon steel, each blade must be washed, dried, and oiled immediately after use to prevent excessive oxidation, ensuring the longevity and performance of your investment.
Elevate your culinary experience with the Yamato 大和川 Damascus Steel Knife Set, a testament to the legacy of masterful Japanese craftsmanship, offering unmatched performance and aesthetic elegance in one luxurious package.

So I got this set for my birthday and honestly, it's transformed my cooking. The nakiri is my absolute favourite for all the veg prep, just flies through onions and peppers. The other knives in the collection are just as good, the whole set feels really balanced and they look stunning on the magnetic strip. Properly sharp out the box and still going strong.
My daughter bought me these for Christmas. I've wanted a proper Japanese set for ages. The nakiri is my favourite, the way it glides through cabbage is something else. The whole set feels quality.
Bought these as a gift for my partner who loves cooking Japanese food. He's over the moon with them. Says the edge on the nakiri is perfect for getting thin slices of cucumber and the whole set covers everything he needs. They look the part and feel solid in the hand. Arrived next day which was a bonus.
Ok so I was a bit nervous spending this much on knives but I'm really impressed. The set is fantastic, each one has its own job in my kitchen now. The nakiri's flat profile is a dream for push-cutting potatoes. Handle on the santoku took a day to get used to but its fine now. They were really well packaged, no issues at all.
Brilliant set of knives. The damascus pattern is gorgeous and they all have a lovely weight to them. I use the nakiri most days for chopping herbs and veg, but the others are great for meat and fish. Came in a really nice box too, felt like a proper premium purchase. Massive upgrade from the cheap supermarket set I had before.
Chuffed to bits. The set has a nice heft to it without being too heavy. The nakiri is just the right size for my hands. Makes cooking a lot more enjoyable, I find myself looking for things to chop!
Impressed with the sharpness and how they feel in the hand. The sandalwood is nice. Took a couple of sessions to get used to the balance, it's different to my old ones. Now I'm used to it, they're brilliant.
They're decent knives, don't get me wrong. The set looks nice and they're sharp. But for the price I think I expected a bit more? The handles feel a bit light compared to the blade, just a personal preference thing I suppose. They do the job fine, chopped all my Sunday dinner veg with the nakiri no problem, but I wasn't blown away. They're good, just not amazing.
They're decent knives. The nakiri is okay for vegetables. I don't know, for the price I guess I expected to be more blown away? They're fine, they cut things. Just not the revelation some reviews made out.
Very good quality. The nakiri is perfect. The only reason it's not 5 stars is I think the blade on the gyuto could be a bit longer for my liking, feels a touch small for some jobs. Still a great collection though.
These knives are lovely. The handles have a nice warm colour to them. I use the nakiri for nearly everything to be honest, but having the different sizes is great when you've got multiple things on the go.
The finish on these is gorgeous. The damascus steel has a real depth to it. Not just pretty though, they're proper tools. The nakiri and the gyuto are the stars for me, couldn't be without them now.
Three stars feels fair. They do the job. The nakiri is probably the best of the bunch. The handles are a bit plain for my taste, thought they'd have more character. They're not bad, just a bit...meh? Expected more for sixty quid.
Happy with the purchase. They look amazing and perform well. I think I was maybe expecting them to be a bit lighter based on other Japanese knives I've held. Not a dealbreaker, just an observation. They do the job brilliantly.
It's a nice enough set. The damascus looks good and they came sharp. I find myself reaching for my old chef's knife more often though, the gyuto in this set doesn't quite rock how I like. They're alright.
Really like the set, the nakiri is fantastic for vegetables. My only tiny gripe is I wish the handles were a tiny bit more rounded, they're a little square for my grip. Still, great knives for the money.
Been using the set for a month now, mainly the nakiri for daily dinner prep. Edge is still razor sharp, just a quick hone now and then. The sandalwood handles have a lovely feel, not slippery at all. Massive upgrade.
So chuffed with this set. The nakiri is my go-to for all the veg prep, flies through onions and peppers. The whole collection just looks stunning on the magnetic strip, the damascus pattern is proper nice. My old block set feels like toys now.
Lovely knives. The damascus pattern is beautiful and they're incredibly sharp. I just wish the set came with a bread knife as well, feels like a bit of a gap. But for what's here, very pleased.
Bought these for my husband who loves to cook. He's over the moon. Says the balance on the santoku is perfect and the nakiri is brilliant for herbs. They came in a lovely box too, made it feel like a proper gift.
Bought these as a gift for my partner and he loves them. Says the nakiri is a game changer for his meal prep. He did mention the blades are a bit thinner than he's used to, so he's being extra careful. No complaints otherwise.
Really good value for a full set like this. The edge on the nakiri is superb. I just wish the petty knife was a bit bigger, it feels a little too small for some tasks. But the main knives are spot on.
Cant believe how sharp these are out the box. The gyuto handled a whole chicken no problem, and the petty knife is ideal for little jobs. The set covers everything you'd need.
Best investment I’ve made in my kitchen
Ok so I was a bit nervous spending this much on knives but so glad I did. The collection is brilliant. Use the nakiri most days, makes quick work of carrots and spuds. Arrived next day which was a bonus.
