Asuka 飛鳥 7″ Damascus Steel Santoku Knife 三徳包丁
Introducing the Asuka 飛鳥 by Shimeru, a premium 7″ santoku knife that captures the splendour of Japan's ancient imperial era. With its striking black resin and gold flake handle, the Asuka is forged for those who seek opulence and precision in equal measure.
The blade is forged from 67 layers of premium Damascus steel with a VG10 cutting core, delivering exceptional sharpness, durability, and edge retention. The intricate wave pattern across the blade is unique to each knife, a hallmark of traditional Damascus craftsmanship. The hammered tsuchime finish reduces friction and prevents food from clinging, ensuring clean, effortless cuts through vegetables, proteins, and delicate ingredients alike.
The handle is a statement of luxury, crafted from deep black resin embedded with shimmering gold flakes that catch the light with every movement. No two handles are identical, making each Asuka a truly unique piece. The ergonomic Western-style grip provides a secure, comfortable hold, while a decorative mosaic pin adds a refined finishing touch. Moisture-resistant and built for durability, this handle performs beautifully in the busiest kitchens.
At 7″, the Asuka santoku excels at the three essential cuts—slicing, dicing, and mincing. Its wide blade profile allows for easy scooping and transfer of ingredients, while the balanced weight provides agile, confident handling for both everyday meal preparation and ambitious culinary creations.
The Asuka 飛鳥 7″ Damascus Steel Santoku Knife is crafted for chefs who appreciate artistry and grandeur. A blade that brings golden elegance and flawless performance to your kitchen, the Asuka will transform every cooking session into an occasion.

SaleSo I got this as a birthday present for my wife who's really into cooking and she absolutely loves it. The pattern on the blade is gorgeous and it's so sharp, she said it glides through veg like butter. The handle feels really solid too, not cheap at all. Came in a nice box which made it feel proper special.
Bought this for my dad who's a retired chef, he cant stop talking about it. The Damascus pattern is stunning, every knife is unique apparently. He says the flat profile of the santoku is ideal for how he chops. Arrived next day which was a bonus. Chuffed with it.
Does everything I need it to. Chopping, slicing, dicing. The pointed tip is useful for finer work too. Very happy with the purchase.
Brilliant knife, exactly what I needed. The edge is still razor sharp after a month of daily use, just a quick hone and its good to go. Makes quick work of onions and herbs. The black and gold handle looks the business on the magnetic strip.
Ok so I was a bit sceptical spending this much on one knife but its worth it. The balance is spot on and it just feels right in the hand. Cuts tomatoes like a dream.
The pattern on the blade is different to the one in the product photo, which I actually like. Makes it feel unique. Cuts brilliantly.
Brilliant knife, exactly what I needed. Lovely edge on it.
Ok so I was a bit nervous spending this much on a knife but its a massive upgrade from my old Procook set. The weight is perfect, feels balanced in the hand. Used it to break down a whole chicken and it handled the joints no problem. Really impressed with the edge retention, the VG10 core is no joke.
Really lovely knife, the craftsmanship is clear and it's incredibly sharp. My only very minor thing is the handle shape, its a bit more square than I'm used to so took a day or two to get comfortable with. Once I did though, its been brilliant for all my veg prep. Definitely recommend.
The handle shape is really comfortable for a pinch grip, which is how I prefer to hold a knife. Blade has a nice heft to it without being too heavy.
Honestly just a pleasure to use. Makes cooking feel a bit more special. The whole package feels premium.
Gorgeous knife. The gold flakes in the handle catch the light beautifully. Its not just a showpiece though, its a proper workhorse in the kitchen.
I was worried the black and gold handle would feel cheap but it doesn't, it feels really secure and has a good texture. Knife feels really well made.
Cant believe how sharp it is out the box. Sliced some really thin cucumber for a salad, no effort at all. My new favourite kitchen tool.
Been using this for a few weeks now, mostly for veg prep. The flat profile is great for chopping, and the VG10 core is still razor sharp. Handle's really comfortable too.
Massive upgrade from my old Procook set. The edge retention is noticeably better, haven't had to sharpen it yet after a month of daily use.
Came really well packaged in a nice box. First impressions are great, feels solid and balanced. Used it on some onions and it was like cutting through air.
Really nice knife, incredibly sharp and looks the part. My only very minor gripe is I wish the handle was a tiny bit more contoured, its quite straight. Still a great knife though and I use it all the time.
Its a decent knife. Does the job. Sharp out of the box. I suppose I was just expecting to be more wowed for the price? The handle looks nice but feels a bit like plastic to me. Its fine, just not amazing.
So I got this to replace my old block set knife and wow, what a difference. The weight is perfect and it just glides through veg. Handle looks even better in person.
Four stars because its a brilliant cutter and the steel is top notch, holds an edge for ages. I just found it slightly heavier than I was expecting for a santoku, but I'm getting used to it and its not a deal breaker at all. Would recommend.
Takes a bit of getting used to if you're coming from a western knife, the angle is different. But once you adjust, its so much better. Cuts are cleaner.
Arrived next day which was a bonus. Used it to break down a whole chicken and it handled the joints and boning really well, more versatile than I thought a santoku would be.
Solid bit of kit. Feels like it'll last for years if looked after. Already thinking about getting another one as a gift.
Perfect size for my smaller hands. The 7 inch length is really manoeuvrable. Great for detailed work like mincing garlic or chopping herbs.
